![]() It’s not quite the pioneer it was, but Chrome continues to evolve interesting new features and performance tweaks to make it a decent alternative to your existing browser. This is the 64-bit version of Chrome Portable. Firefox will never release a 64 bit version. While the competition has definitely caught up, Chrome has enough going for it to keep existing users happy supporting the browser that has led to so many improvements in the way we view and access the web.Ĭhrome Portable 114 is now in the Stable channel. It bundles the Flash plug-in so you don’t have to download it separately and the browser sync function makes it easy to back up and sync your settings across multiple computers. 3 VerTigoNTxvii, willowelmartin, and kinalon reacted with thumbs up emoji. It’s still quick to load, quick to perform and easy to use. ![]() ![]() Oh, Chrome was also the first to adopt a rapid release cycle, so if you’re fed up with a new browser number appearing in the About menu every few months, you can thank Google for that too.Ĭhrome may no longer look like the dazzling young starlet, but it more than holds its own against the competition. Chrome was the first to provide a resource-friendly browser that loaded quickly and didn’t suck the life out of your system, although again the competition has now caught up – and in some cases – surpassed its achievements. It was Chrome’s sleek tab-driven interface with minimal real estate that was adopted by Firefox and then Internet Explorer. Both browsers have improved massively in recent years, but part of that improvement is down to the growth in rival browsers like Google’s open-source alternative.Ĭhrome is no longer the young upstart it once was, and its pioneering spirit is often forgotten in the mists of time. Many people are happy to stick with the default browser set up when they fire up their computer for the first time, which means Edge if you’re a Windows 10 user and Safari if you’re on an Apple Mac.

Whale lets you customize your new tab page to one of its pretty images, or a custom image of your own. It didn't, and that's a big strike for me. I was hopeful Whale browser, its guts still essentially Chrome, would keep Chrome's tab management. With that welcome change, I made the switch. Related: I've started using the Brave browser as my default, precisely because they finally rewrote their code based on the Chrome source code, so it behaves exactly like Chrome (it essentially is Chrome, plus AdBlock). The milliseconds I waste having to tap tap tap on Whale drive me crazy. I love dragging down from the URL bar and tossing aside tabs, or else sliding within the URL bar to switch between them. This is a key reason I refuse to use Firefox or almost any other mobile browser. I hate that tab control is done via buttons. Tap an icon or else tab the little tab switcher icon to get a display of all your open tabs. Whale starts with a beautiful customizable New Tab page. Nice to see it built right into your mobile browsing. Plus Papago is a great translation service. I want a manual way to trigger that translation. I've always hated that Chrome decides when/if it will ask me if I want a page translated. Tap it to log into your Naver account.įor me, the Papago button to translate manually is a great feature. The circle icon at top is your profile. It brings up a box-style menu from the bottom (see above). The second, about agreeing to send diagnostic data, is optional. When you first run Whale, it will ask to to agree to their policies. Whale's draw is that it's as smooth/secure as Chrome, but defaults into all the Naver ecosystem services that most Koreans use.Īnyway, I played around with it yesterday, and took extensive screenshots. I'm sure they'll release an English version soon, as some settings are already showing up in English. Now the Android version is out, though note that the app is currently only in Korean. Manually syncing also lets me run `sync` and watch the `rclone sync` output, which gives me greater confidence that all the layers have synced successfully. So instead I chose to have the block files in a regular directory, and I make sure to `rclone sync` that directory to the WebDAV server when I make changes in the XFS layer. The directory containing the losetup block files could be `rclone mount`'d from the WebDAV server, but that would make the setup unavailable if I didn't have network access. The stack is XFS inside cryptsetup inside mdraid on top of losetup. Using 1920 as the number of sectors fixed that, though I'll probably just nuke the LUKS partition and rebuild it on top of dm_linear with 1953 sectors each. I discovered mdadm's behavior by inspecting the first two loopback devices and the RAID device in xxd. In my first attempt at replacing mdadm with dm_linear I used 1953 as the number of sectors, which led to garbage when decrypted with dm_crypt. One caveat is that my 1MB (actually 999936B) block devices have 1953 sectors (999936B / 512B) but mdadm had silently only used 1920 sectors from each. And `mdadm -stop` blocks for multiple minutes for some unexplained reason, whereas `dmcreate remove` is almost instantaneous. dev/loop1`, but it's all scripted anyway so it doesn't matter. Setting up the table input to `dmsetup create`'s stdin is more complicated than just `mdadm -build. dm_linear is an easier way than mdadm to concatenate the loopback devices into a single device. Of course, despite working on this for a week I only now discovered this. So any modification of files in the XFS layer eventually results in some of the 1MB blocks at the lowest layer being modified, and only those modified 1MB blocks need to be synced to the WebDAV server. In my case I created a LUKS device on top of this, then an XFS filesystem on the top of the LUKS device, then that XFS filesystem is my backup directory. From here the 10GB block device can be used as any other block device. Not only would metadata blocks use up a significant portion of the 1MB device size, but also I don't really need mdadm to "discover" this device automatically, and also the metadata superblock does not support 10000 devices anyway (the max is 2000 IIRC).Ĥ. `-build` means that mdadm does not store metadata blocks in the devices, unlike `-create` which does. ![]() `-level=linear` means the RAID device is just a concatenation of the underlying devices. This RAID device appears as a single block device of 10GB size. Create a RAID device over the 10000 loopback devices with `mdadm -build -level=linear`. Mount each file as a loopback block device using `losetup`.ģ. Create 10000 files, each of 1MB size, so that the total usage is 10GB.Ģ. So writing a file requires reuploading it, which is the same situation as S3.ġ. The server allows 10GB usage, but max file size is 250MB, and in any case WebDAV does not support partial writes. I use a WebDAV server for storing backups (Fastmail Files). This should, in theory, allow for out of order writes, existing partial object re-use, and file appends. Last year I discovered that S3 can do transactional I/O via multipart upload operations combined with the CopyObject operation. The sequential requirement for writes is the part that I've been mulling over whether or not it's actually required in S3. Modifying existing files will not be supported. Writes will only be supported to new files, and must be done sequentially. In the future, Mountpoint for Amazon S3 will support sequential writes, but with some limitations: Write operations (write, writev, pwrite, pwritev) are not currently supported. The SEMANTICS doc details what is and isn't supported from a POSIX filesystem API perspective, and this stands out: This is really interesting and something I've been thinking about for a while now. The sound is OK and the controls are similar to most first person shooters on the 3DS/DS. The environment and monsters still have the old DS look to them. I was hoping Renegade Kid would give Dementium Remastered a complete makeover, something like Zelda Ocarina of time. The game looks like a old Nintendo 64 game. My biggest complaint our the graphics, even though, it looks better than the DS. After playing the game I realize, it's the same game I played back on DS with minor visual improvements. It is also around a 1000 blocks download, so it´s also a great option if you don´t have a lot of space left. It won´t knock anyone out with it´s story (It´s not reinventing the wheel) but what it does, it does it in spades. If you have already played/own Dementium, there is very little new content here save a few retouches and easter eggs, but if you haven´t it is a very nice game in the vein of the old silent hill series. The music is pretty much untouched, and using headphones is still greatly recomended. The upgraded resolution and retouched textures bring up a lot of detail and it just feels nice to gaze upon (can´t talk about the 3d effect tho, so no lying). Thanks to the circle pad, moving and aiming results in a much more comfortable experience(plays really good on a 2ds). It was made back in 2007 on a much inferior hardware, so it may not be strikingly surprising to anyone used to the horror genre, and yet still as a budget portable title it works wonders. Dementium Remastered is a great updated re-release on the 3ds of the original dementium. ![]() Dementium I have to write this review since people are really picking it apart for the most obnoxious reason (Looking at you Jim Sterling). There are three different endings that the player may reach through the game, depending on which character's videos they explored most frequently. Barlow estimated that the content within Telling Lies is about four to five times longer than Her Story. The player only has a limited amount of time within a single playthrough to scan material from the hard-drive, and would have to restart from scratch (losing all notes and bookmarks) if they want to see more. Players can scroll forwards and backwards within segments, highlight certain words in the video subtitles to use as search, and keep notes within an in-game memo pad.
